Youngkin in poll position to win Virginia gubernatorial race
In the latest slew of polls, Youngkin appears to be positioned to win the Virginia governor’s race.
Glenn Youngkin is peaking at the right time going into the Tuesday gubernatorial showdown with former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe.
In the latest slew of polls, Youngkin, a businessman and self-funder, appears to be positioned to win the Virginia governor’s race. Trafalgar has Youngkin up two and so does InsiderAdvantage.
And in the largest swing, a Fox News poll released in the last week has Youngkin up by 8 points, 53-45. The poll represents a 13 point swing as McAuliffe was up in the same poll by 5 points just two weeks earlier.
Youngkin’s late surge comes as the candidate has focused his campaign on education, saying he would work to stop divisive Critical Race Theory teachings in K-12 and let parents have more of a say in education.
McAuliffe and his Democratic allies have had their own share of missteps in recent weeks. The former governor in a September debate said he did not believe parents should be telling schools and teachers what to teach their children.
“I’m not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decision,” McAuliffe said. “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”
The Lincoln Project this week attempted a much maligned stunt in which Democratic operatives dressed up like white supremacists near a Youngkin rally. The race-baiting stunt was criticized by the McAuliffe campaign as being “distasteful.”
A Youngkin win would make him the first Republican governor of Virginia since 2010-2014 when Bob McDonnell held the office.
